“It has nearly been seven weeks since Dominic’s injury, but he is now breathing independently after his tracheotomy was removed on Wednesday morning.
“All being well it is expected that Dom will be moved from intensive care to the spinal unit in the next week to begin the next phase of his recovery.
“We thank everybody for their ongoing support, especially the staff and students at Dom’s old school community St Peter’s.
“The Maitland communities generous and ongoing support has been incredible and much appreciated by Dom and his family.”
